AN exhibition today opens a doorway on a world that is all too rarely discussed.

The Museum of Oxford will investigate the rich but troubled history of the Jews in this city between 1080 and 1290.

The latter was the year when the Jews were expelled after decades of persecution not only from the city but the country as part of a purge by Edward I.

The expulsion order remained in force for the rest of the Middle Ages, and is one of the most shameful decisions by the British ruling classes.

Now the people of the county have a chance to learn more about the fascinating cultural heritage of the Jews in the city.

For the sake of understanding more about their past and that of this city, we would urge people to go along.
