A copper beech was planted by Lady Brunner to mark Kingham’s success in the winners’ class of the Oxfordshire Best Kept Village competition in 1972 for the second year running. After the planting, guests adjourned to the village hall where Charles Lainchbury was presented with a painting of the village green. Mr Lainchbury was largely responsible for its success in the competition.
