The village railway station was the pride of these two men.
Ivor Townsend, left, and Arthur Jupp worked to make it the “showpiece of the Cotswold Line” between Oxford and Worcester. They coped with 20 trains a day, sold tickets, answered queries from passengers, and kept the booking hall and flower beds neat and tidy. When the picture was taken in 1971, a passenger had written to British Rail to say it was “a splendidly run place”, heaping praise on the two veteran staff.
