THE Oxfordshire Museum in Woodstock is exhibiting the tombstone of a Roman soldier – believed to be the first known resident of the county.
Inspiring Archaeology: Treasures of the Romans and Saxons takes place at the attraction in Park Street next Saturday from 10.30am to 4pm.
On display will be the tombstone of Lucius Valerius Geminus, who was buried in the foundation of a stone wall in a field between Bicester and Wendlebury.
The two-metre high tombstone was first uncovered in 2003 near the site of the Roman town of Alchester.
Other items on display include The Hanney Brooch, which had been buried for almost 1,500 years.
