FEAST your eyes on this. A whole soft French cheese, one large onion and half a glass of white wine go to make the South East’s favourite potato dish.
The creator, author Jackie Sherman, 66, from Abingdon, was inspired by her son’s experience of music festival food.
Mrs Sherman entered the Tartiflette Proper in the Potato Council’s competition to find Britain’s best potato dish.
“My son Toby went to Bestival on the Isle of Wight and came back raving about this potato dish,” she said. “We looked it up on the internet and discovered it was a tartiflette. I read a lot of recipes and eventually came up with this – it’s very tasty.”
Mrs Sherman, of Radley Road, has written 30 books, but only one about cookery. Making The Most Of Your Glorious Glut is about how to make the best use of dull vegetables like potatoes.
The Potato Council is working with celebrity chef James Martin to find the nation’s best potato dish.
Twelve finalists recipes will be tasted by a panel of judges and creator of the winning recipe will get the role of home economist for the Many Faces of Potatoes national TV ad campaign.
