PUPILS at Oxfordshire’s only all-girls state schools got a taste of a possible future career on International Girls in ICT Day.

Didcot Girls School pupils met women working in ICT, before using technology including iPads to create their own advertising campaign.

Holly Smith, 15, of Didcot, said: “It was more interesting than I thought it was going to be, especially when I heard about the salaries you could earn.”

Izzie Cheshire, 15, also of Didcot, said: “It cleared a lot of the stereotypes for me, I thought IT was really male-dominated but it’s good to hear that it isn’t.”

The event was organised by IT firm Nominet, based at Oxford Science Park, partly in response to research they commissioned which indicated while 78 per cent of girls were interested in working for technology companies, 65 per cent said their ICT education had no impact on their career aspirations.
