FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a straw hut in East Oxford yesterday.

The structure was in the garden of a house in Ridgefield Road.

Fire crews were called to the scene at just before 6am.

To gain access they had to go through the gardens of two homes in Cowley Road, taking down the fences.

A spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “There is no confirmed cause yet but it is not being treated as suspicious.

“No one was injured that I'm aware of.”

Part of the pavement along Cowley Road also had to be cordoned off while the fire service was on the scene.

By 9am the blaze had been put out, although firefighters with two fire engines remained to dampen down the straw.

It is understood the circular straw hut was used as a music room.

The owner of the house declined to comment.
