A ROYAL Marine injured in bomb blasts and gunfire in Afghanistan will cycle from London to Paris to raise charity funds.

Adam Clark, 31, from Carterton, pictured, was a heavy weapons operator in 42 Commando and spent seven months in Helmand Province in 2006.

But he was left with hearing problems after being near to explosions and damaged ligaments in his hips from carrying heavy weapons.

After 15 years in the forces, he will be discharged this month and is now planning to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Marine Clark said: “I feel good about my future. For me to stay in, I wanted to be able to move up the ladder, but it was basically impossible to do so in the marines because it is so physical.

“It is now about moving on with a fresh start. It probably will be a culture shock but I am looking forward to doing something new.”
