ANTI-GAY marriage campaigners delivered a postcard signed by 288 people to David Cameron’s Witney constituency office yesterday.
About 300 people lined the road outside the Prime Minister’s office holding banners against Government plans to legalise marriage between same-sex couples.
Former Chipping Norton Conservatives branch chairwoman, Cicely Maunder, who resigned from her position over the issue, handed over the postcard.
MPs backed the legalisation of gay marriage – with a majority of 225 (400 to 175) – in a House of Commons vote earlier this year.
Yesterday’s event was organised by Witney for Marriage, a branch of national campaign group Coalition for Marriage (C4M).
C4M spokesman Mike Judge said: “Redefining marriage is a vote-loser.
“Ordinary people want politicians to fix the economy and deliver better public services, not fiddle about with marriage.
“The voters of Witney don’t want it and the voters of Britain don’t want it. It wasn’t in Mr Cameron’s manifesto and he has no mandate to redefine marriage over the heads of the people.”
Voters across Oxfordshire will go to the polls in the county council elections tomorrow.
