THE M40 southbound just before Junction 6 at Lewknor has been closed following an accident.

The accident, involving a car and van were involved in the incident at around 4.15pm and as a result there is an oil spillage which is being cleared.

The road has been blocked while the vehicles are removed and the oil is cleared up.

The drivers of both vehicles were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital by ambulance.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman could not confirm the severity of their injuries.
The road closed entirely for a brief period but two lanes were reopened within an hour and the traffic was reported to be flowing by 5.45pm.

Lane 3 remained closed 200 yards before Junction 6 at 6pm.
