EMERGENCY work to repair a gas leak at Oxford’s Botley Road is expected to be completed tomorrow but resurfacing work means there will still be delays on Friday, Southern Gas has just admitted

There were traffic queues in Botley Road this morning because of the repair work by Southern Gas Networks and temporary three-way traffic lights at the junction with Ferry Hinksey Road.

The company said earlier this afternoon it expected to complete its work by tomorrow but has just said there would be resurfacing work on Friday.

This morning it was taking motorists half an hour to travel from Seacourt down to Ferry Hinksey Road.

Southern Gas Networks spokeswoman Chloe Boyce said: "It was agreed with the local authority to start the work today with the use of temporary traffic lights.

"he existing traffic lights have been turned off, as temporary lights were required due to the awkward location of the leak.

"We'll be manually controlling these lights at peak times, as we appreciate this is a busy route into the city."

She added: "We're very much hoping the work will be complete by tomorrow. We'd like to apologise for any inconvenience which may be caused by our work."
