Sir – A quarter of a century ago, the University of Oxford wrongly refused Margaret Thatcher the academic recognition rightly accorded to several earlier Prime Ministers.
As a then candidate for election to the city council, I well remember the unreasonably shrill hatred then voiced by academics and others alike.
Plans are now being laid to create a memorial study centre, museum and library in London and I venture to hope that, to make amends, the University will make some appropriate contribution to it.
