Sir – Dominic Utton is correct to praise the cooling towers of Didcot A (Off the rails, April 11) as an iconic local landmark.
Why do they have to be demolished along with the ancilliary office building?
Surely, with some imaginative modification, they could become six beautiful blocks of flats. Think of the marvellous views the residents would enjoy.
Many industrial structures of the 18th and nineteenth centuries have been converted for residential use. It is now time to work out how to make use of our redundant 20th-century industrial buildings.
