Sir – I am sorry that The Punter and other pubs are having a tough time (Business, April 11).
However, the last time I went in there and asked for a 125ml glass of wine I was told that they wouldn’t serve that measure, only a larger one.
As it’s the law of the country that this smaller measure must be provided on request, they’re not really doing their bit to encourage folk like me who aren’t big drinkers.
I like to have a small glass and then a soft drink (and they all make plenty of money on the latter, often the percentage of gross profit is in the thousand rather than hundred).
This law needs to be better known; it might encourage more to use pubs for that quick drink after work, surely that makes business sense too?
