A MAN has been jailed for taking a car without permission and stealing two numberplates.

Daniel Westlake, of Marlborough Road, Oxford, admitted taking a car which did not belong to him and stealing numberplates to hide his tracks.

On December 12 last year, there was a burglary in Shirelake Close, Oxford, in which a set of car keys and a Peugeot 107 were stolen.

The same evening, Derija Dereje reported the number plate of his car had been stolen in Bristol.

A week later, Henretta Harrison told police the same had happened to her vehicle in Norreys Avenue, Oxford.

Police spotted the second stolen car in Oxford and soon afterwards arrested Westlake.

Yesterday, he was sentenced to four months in prison at Oxford Crown Court. This will run consecutively with a four-month sentence for stealing petrol and breaching a suspended sentence order.

Peter Du Feu, defending, said Westlake used the stolen car to visit his partner, who lives in Bristol.
