STAGES and marquees were being set up in Witney yesterday in preparation for a big music festival in the town centre today.
Featuring everything from rock to choirs it will be the first time the annual Witney Music Festival has held an event on The Leys and up to 5,000 people are expected.
Festival organiser Derek West, pictured left with original promoter Stuart Foster, said: “It is going to be a terrific day on The Leys. There is so much variety and so many activities – there is going to be loads of stuff happening.
“There will be something for everyone.”
Yesterday, about 40 people were building stages, installing marquees and putting together the food stalls.
The free event will feature about 20 acts performing across two stages between noon and 10pm, three bars, eight food outlets and craft demonstrations.
There will also be music workshops, a soft play area, climbing wall and bouncy castle for children, and a silent disco in the evening. The festival continues for two weeks at venues across the town.
