A FUNDRAISING event has given the Cowley Road Carnival an £8,000 cash boost.
The three-course meal at Aziz Restaurant in Cowley Road, with an auction and raffle, took the total raised for the event on July 6 and 7 to about £50,000 – two thirds of the target.
Trustee of the Cowley Road Carnival Committee, Zaheer Qureshi, said: “We are very pleased. It was a good event, fully packed.
“People were donating things like chairs and tables for the auction.
“We are bringing the carnival back to the Cowley Road, which is what people want.”
The carnival – launched in 2001 – was cancelled in 2012 because of Olympic and Diamond Jubilee celebrations. It will be held on the same weekend as Alice’s Day, which celebrates Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.
