SO Ofcom is investigating swearing by Oxford cox Oskar Zorilla during the broadcast of the University Boat Race.

It was stupid of the programme makers to put a microphone on the coxes.

Those words were normal encouragement for the oarsmen who would not be at all offended.

Boat crews are normally well-behaved, as are the majority of sportsmen. On the other hand, professional footballers are always mouthing obscenities at officials and spitting on the pitch (not to mention biting).

I find this much more offensive, but for some reason we are expected to accept this as ok.

Give me the rowers any day.
