OLD sheets and lampshades might seem like unlikely art materials, but that is what was used to create this vibrant junk installation.
The impressive eight-metre-long display was made by children at Wolvercote Primary School, and will be unveiled at its plant fair on Saturday.
It is a collaboration between community artist Groovy Su, children, and parent volunteers and was inspired by the school’s work with Oxford Botanic Gardens.
Groovy Su, whose real name is Su Frizzell, said: “I believe creativity and fun are essential to keep kids turned on to learning.
“This project has been a brilliant example, with kids connecting the experience of making with what they’re finding out about botany. What they’ve come up with are not real plants, they are the rainforest flowers of the imagination.”
Headteacher Frances Bartlett said: “We encourage the children to engage with nature.”
