IT appears that the work on the redesigned precinct shopping centre in Abingdon has slowed down somewhat.
It is a pity that they could not afford to improve shelter with a canopy. The area still needs to be made safer for cyclists – perhaps a fence should be put up to keep pedestrians to one side.
Which building is to be used as a deluxe public toilet? The town certainly needs a better one! Businessmen must be queueing to open new shops and stores.
Will there be Tesco on one side and Sainsbury on the other? There was a rumour that the nearby library and a doctor’s surgery were to be put on the shop’s roof.
I have a better idea. Move the council from Abbey Close and put them up there out of the way.
The library could be expanded and a larger doctor’s surgery could be created in the (then empty) council building.
There would also be room for a museum/tourist information centre/Citizens’ Advice Bureau.
