A light aircraft made an emergency landing in a field near Abingdon last night prompting reports of a plane crash.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service received a report of an aircraft going down in the Kingston Bagpuize area at 6.30pm on Sunday.
Fire appliances from Abingdon, Oxford, Faringdon and special appliances from Wheatley, Wantage and Kidlington responded to the incident.
On arrival the four-seater Cessna aircraft had made an emergency landing in a field adjacent to the Hanney Road between Southmoor and Charney Bassett. The pilot and his passengers suffered no injuries.
The aircraft had suffered engine failure prior to landing at Kidlington airport and the pilot had to make the decision to land in the field.
Incident Commander Dean Hazell, from Abingdon fire station, said: “The aircraft landed in the field upright without any obvious damage.
"The crew had a very lucky escape from what could have been very serious incident”.
