The venture capitalists, Oxford stadium owners, will never listen to the leisure facility users, the local community or the Save Oxford Stadium campaign.

They will ignore the fact that we don’t want the stadium destroyed.

The reports that there are people who want to buy it and keep the stadium running as a viable concern and making use of its full potential as a sports and activity arena, will not make any difference to them as long as they believe they can build houses and make millions in the process.

Come what may, they intend to press on against the democratic wishes of even those elected to protect our interests. The predictions are all coming true, since they now want to flatten the stadium and leave it derelict until they get their way.

They are not in the least concerned that once the stadium has been destroyed such a venue will never be replaced in Oxfordshire.

They don’t care that not only will they destroy the buildings and the race tracks, but also part of Cowley’s working class heritage.

Oxford has too few entertainment venues, but if the faceless venture capitalists, and their unaccountable agent, get away with this destruction and development, regardless of the council’s current housing plans, then what next? I hate to think it, but the Kassam Stadium may eventually be at risk as well. Unless United can buy it, we know that all too often money and greed will talk louder than words.

Our only hope is that the council continues to oppose this disgraceful destruction and that Oxford East MP Andrew Smith’s hard work leads the Save Oxford Stadium campaign to success.
