MORRIS dancers, fiddlers, singers and acoustic performers descend on the city today for Oxford Folk Weekend.
The event, which began last night, is being billed as a family-friendly festival – and half of all events will be free.
Children from Oxfordshire special schools took part in a ceilidh at the Old Fire Station, George Street. More than 50 children from John Watson School in Wheatley, Springfield School in Witney, Kingfisher School in Abingdon and Bishopswood School in Sonning Common joined in with the energetic reels.
Folk Weekend director Cat Kelly said: The children loved it and I got a lot of ‘high-fives’ from them.”
Today’s highlights include shows by Oxford band Magpie Lane and Summertown singer-songwriter Jackie Oates. Tomorrow sees sets by the Melrose Quartet and Turkish-Cypriot singer Dogan Mehmet.
Weekend tickets are £48 (£42 concessions, £30 youth, £20 under 12). Day and individual concert tickets are also available. For more details, visit www.folkweekendoxford.co.uk
