A THIRTEEN-YEAR-OLD schoolboy is in training to become king of the road.
On May 26, Josh King is planning to cycle 50 miles around Oxfordshire.
The Grove youngster is doing it in memory of his aunt Samantha Greenall, who died last September at the age of 43 after a four-year battle with cancer.
He hopes to raise thousands of pounds for Oxfordshire bereavement charity SeeSaw, which supported the family.
Josh, a pupil at King Alfred’s in Wantage, said: “Our family has been fundraising together, but I wanted to do something that I could organise myself, which is why I thought of a bike ride.
“I started training with my dad on January 1 and I’m keeping a diary so I can look back on it and help keep Sam’s memory alive.
“I’m hoping lots of people will want to join the ride or sponsor us, so we can say thank you to SeeSaw.”
Mrs Greenall left behind husband John and three young sons, Max, 11, Jude, nine and Leo, four.
She worked at Drayton Pre-school and was well-known to the community.
Josh already has support from about 25 riders, including dad Jason, 41.
He also hopes to attract sponsorship from local businesses as well as volunteers to man refreshment stations along the route.
He said: “It will be the longest bike ride I have ever done and I am building up my training.”
