A LARGE Audi dealership should be allowed move onto a Cowley business park, a council planning officer says.

Oxford City Council’s Andrew Murdoch recommends councillors at the east area planning committee approve the Oxford Business Park plan.

The two-storey building would bring the first dealership to the Garington Road business park.

Mr Murdoch’s report says: “The existing site is undeveloped. Officers consider that the overall size, scale, design and siting of the proposed development would suit the sites capacity and the character and appearance of the business park.”

There would be 177 parking spaces and the dealership would create an estimated 72 jobs.

But Oxfam GB, based across the road from the proposed site, has objected to the “unsustainable” scheme.

It said to the council: “As a car dealership the purpose and method of transportation is essentially by car, especially for customers, for which we already have significant congestion in this area.”

But officers said the increase in traffic would not be significant.

Ridgeway Garages (Newbury) Ltd and Volkswagen Group (UK) has made the application.

The committee will consider the plan tomorrow at Oxford Town Hall at 6pm.
