YOUR report (April 9) on our taxes flushed down the pan, stated: “The next stage of a masterplan to give Oxford world-class loos is under way as work starts to revamp public toilets in Gloucester Green.”
However, as far as I know, neither Councillor John Tanner, nor the “Toilets Tsar”, Jeremy Smith, has yet replied to the letter from Brian Lester which you published on March 27 complaining that the recently-refurbished toilets in Market Street had “no toilet tissue, filthy cubicles and seats”.
A female friend of mine has also told me that the women’s toilets in Market Street were in a lamentable state.
What is the point of spending thousands of pounds of our council taxes on redecorating public toilets if they are not inspected and cleaned regularly?
