A BICESTER nightclub with a troubled history has won back permission to operate as a venue.

In September, G’s Wine Bar, in Dean’s Court, had its licence revoked after a series of problems.

Thames Valley Police had applied for the licence to be revoked after it listed a string of incidents at the club in the past seven years. This included fights, assaults, and drug possession.

In one incident a 19-year-old girl was found naked and unconscious in the toilets, and in another in October 2011 a fight involving about 50 people spread to the Market Square.

Following the licensing sub-committee’s decision, owner George Smith mounted an appeal, which meant the nightclub could remain open and a hearing was due to take place this week.

Licensing authority Cherwell District Council said it had agreed a new set of conditions with Mr Smith.

The council said his solicitors approached them to negotiate the future of the site.

It said Bicester magistrates approved the Consent Order containing these conditions, and the appeal concluded on Monday.

Conditions include closing the club at 3.15am instead of the previous time of 4am, and entry is not allowed after 2.15am.

The club must also have a set number of door staff in attendance at all times and alcohol is banned from being consumed outside.

Tony Ilott, Cherwell’s lead member for public protection, said: “Following last year’s committee hearing, the police provided further evidence that we have examined in detail and as a result, were able to identify areas where conditions may address problems at the premises.

“We also acknowledge there has been a reduction in the number of antisocial incidents taking place.

“Having taken all the relevant factors into account, we feel it is acceptable for G’s to have its licence returned, subject to certain conditions.”
