THE image of death-defying stunts will be burned into the memories of about 1,500 people who flocked to Oxpens Meadow, Oxford, yesterday to watch the daredevils of the Extreme Stunt Show.
Audience members marvelled as stuntmen, who are on a national tour, braved a fire tunnel, leapt over cars and performed mid-air acrobatics.
To get through the flames alive, stunt rider Tony Bailey said: “I accelerated as hard as I could in first, second and third gears, then bowed my head at the last minute, to get through the heat of up to 600C.
“The flames get reflected by the aerodynamics of the bike and the rider.
“Your motorbike has got a tank of petrol between your legs, so it is pretty dangerous, but usually the worst we get is a singed eyebrow.”
Show co-ordinator Jez Avery said: “When I said ‘boys, girls, mums and dads– make as much noise as you can’, there was a definite dominance of young voices. We had a brilliant day.”
