YOUNG writer Laura Scaife has been putting her skills to the test at Waterstones in Oxford. She used ‘story cubes’ at the bookshop on Wednesday to help her come up with a brand new tale.

The 10-year-old from Kidlington said: “We rolled these nine dice and they had pictures on them and we made up a story using the pictures.

“It was really good fun. I wrote about a magician who wanted to do more exciting magic and a detective mystery about fish that can swim in fire.

“I think I want to be an author or a teacher when I grow up.”

Laura was taking part in the event with her brother Tom, eight, who said: “We came up with some crazy ideas, but sometimes they were good.”
