Volunteers help organisations in many ways. A support service for bereaved children and families, has found a very important new role for some of its long-term supporters.

SeeSaw has formed a team of dedicated Ambassadors — volunteers who represent the charity by talking about its work in community groups, and with sponsors.
The Ambassadors use their public speaking skills to raise awareness for SeeSaw and boost its fundraising potential.
“We are incredibly lucky to have passionate supporters who will address a wide range of audiences, and give their time at all hours of the day,” says Rosie Nicol-Harper, director of SeeSaw.
“They take their responsibilities very seriously and so do we. SeeSaw staff and Ambassadors work closely in training sessions, sharing experiences so we get our messages across clearly and consistently.”
SeeSaw is a small charity with a unique role across Oxfordshire. Formed in 2000, its specialised service depends on good will and donations from individuals, community organisations, and local businesses which fund its £300,000 annual budget. So getting SeeSaw’s voice heard across the county is critical.
Some Ambassadors talk passionately about SeeSaw because they have personal experience of its support.
One of the charity’s patrons, Mrs Virginia Grant of Kingston Bagpuize House, is an enthusiastic supporter because of the help her family received when her husband died. She said: “When we most needed it, SeeSaw gave me and my children understanding, friendship and help to look forward.
“I take every opportunity to go out and tell people how wonderful it is.”
Another Ambassador speaks with feeling about his father’s death when he was 10 years old. Beyond immediate family, there was no one to help him through those sorrowful days.
He said: “SeeSaw would have been a godsend back then. That is why I’m so keen to be an ambassador. Children shouldn’t have to face the darkest moments of their young lives alone.”
SeeSaw would like to hear from local community groups and organisations who are interested to know more about its work.
