FOR almost as long as there have been cars there has been the dream of a motor that drives itself.
Now it seems boffins at the University of Oxford may have made the breakthrough with their Robotcar that could take over on certain routes it recognises.
It uses cameras and lasers to determine its surroundings and hazards and is of course reminiscent of the legendary 1980s television show Knight Rider.
Some people will be worried about the safety of such a vehicle on the roads.
But to them we say this: Go for a drive at the weekend and see how safe you feel with some of the humans bouncing around our roads as it is.
