A GANG of masked men burst into a house and assaulted a family of three in a violent attack.

The group of three or four men wearing balaclavas knocked on a door in Champion Way, Littlemore, Oxford, at 6.30pm on Saturday, then, when it opened, they forced their way inside, police said today.

They assaulted a husband and wife and their 17-year-old son who was taken to hospital with cuts and bruises.

Substantial damage was caused to cars and property but nothing was stolen.

Det Con Leila Kennet, of Oxford CID, said: "This seems to have been an unprovoked and violent attack, which has understandably left occupants very shaken."

Police believe the men fled the scene in a burgundy or dark-coloured five door Ford Escort or Mondeo style vehicle.
