Stage productions were regular features of life at Headington Secondary School in Oxford.

We published a picture of one - an opera in 1956 or 1957 - sent in by former pupil Norma Stallard, of Cromwell Way, Kidlington (Memory Lane, August 28).

Another is pictured above - the pantomime, Robinson Crusoe, performed in 1953.

Peter Scudder, of Trinity Road, Headington Quarry, who has provided this latest picture, writes: "It will be interesting how many readers can put names to faces.

"I am the middle sailor in front of Mrs Crusoe's shop."

He has also kept a copy of the programme, which reveals that a large number of pupils, as well as many of the staff, were involved in the production.

Pat Weston played Robinson Crusoe, John Shrimpton was Mrs Crusoe, Brian Dent was Man Friday, and Howard Hyde was Dash the dog.

There were three performances of the show, with ticket prices 2s and 2s 6d for adults and 1s 6d for children. Children could watch the dress rehearsal for a shilling.

When the school was celebrating its 21st anniversary, the July 1957 edition of the school magazine, Reflections, looked back on the school's high reputation for drama.

It reported: "Many remarkable dramatic and musical performances have been staged.

"We remember well such fine spectacles of Ali Baba, Aladdin and Robinson Crusoe, together with dozens of one-act plays."
