LEARNING about philosophy might not be everyone’s cup of tea but a group of students think they’ve come up with a way of solving that.
They’ve written what they think is the world’s first philosophy musical – dubbed A Theory of Justice: The Musical!
It tells the story of 20th century philosopher John Rawls as he travels back through time, meeting on the way a number of star thinkers such as Plato, Jean-Jacques Rousseau and John Stuart Mill.
Director Esme Hicks, pictured with writers and co-producers Tommy Peto, Ramin Sabi and Eylon Aslan-Levy, said: “I’m excited to be working with such a lively script and the cast is going to be one of the strongest I’ve worked with in Oxford.
“I, for one, can’t get the songs out of my head.”
Written by a group of three Oxford University Philosophy, Politics and Economics students, the name of the musical comes from Rawls’s most well-known book, A Theory of Justice, where he defines justice as fairness and comes up with a fair way of distributing goods in a society.
The musical is showing at Keble College’s O’Reilly Theatre from Wednesday, January 30.
