THE band Angelis, featuring county schoolgirl Amy Dow reached number two in the album charts last night.

The classical/pop group, put together by X-Factor judge and music boss Simon Cowell, were beaten to the number one spot by funk act Jamiroquai.

Angelis features six youngsters between the age of 11 and 14 drawn from choirs such as Royal Scottish National Orchestra and New London's Children's Choir.

Among them is 11-year-old Amy, from Cholsey, who performed the band's single Angels at her school, Wallingford School, last Tuesday.

Amy is a pianist and founder member of the Wallingford Children's Choir and Wallingford Chamber Choir and had starred in many productions at the school.

Their album, Angelis, features versions of well known songs such as Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Walking in the Air.

Reaching number two in the album charts meant Angelis pushed Girls Aloud's greatest hits album into third place, Damien Rice into fourth place with 9 and Katherine Jenkins into fifth place with Serenade.

Boyband Westlife last night secured their 14th number one in the single charts with Rose.
