FOR once Olympic champion Katherine Grainger wasn’t receiving an award – she was handing them out.
Gold medal rower Ms Granger paid a visit to Bicester Community College in Queens Avenue on Wednesday where she met sixth formers.
She presented the head boy John Holt, head girl Thea Desborough, and deputy head girls Anya Goodman Brown and Daisy Richards with badges.
Ms Granger’s Olympic performance rowing double sculls was one of the Games’ highlights when after winning silver medals in three successive Olympics she finally struck gold on home soil.
During her visit to the school she was quizzed by pupils about a range of topics, including winning the Gold medal, to women in sport, body image, the legacy of London 2012 and whether she finally got to meet her hero David Beckham.
Head of sixth form Jordanna Riches said: “The sixth formers revelled in the opportunity to question one of the country’s top sportswomen.”
