RE: Dial-a-Ride. Cllr Arish Fatemian, who is pushing Oxfordshire’s social care into the gutter, has got a cheek.
The county council is now responsible for pensioners’ bus passes and Dial-a-Ride. It is they who have cut the number of minibuses for pensioners in Oxford from two to one.
The city council is fed up with picking up the bill for the county. We are already having to spend on schools, on youth clubs and on cycle lanes which are all the county’s responsibility.
We are pressing the county to increase the number of Dial-a-Rides.
Cllr Fatemian is Cabinet member for Adult Services. He presides over one of the worst hospital transfer records in the country.
He wants to charge elderly people £25 a day to attend day centres and he has scrapped the excellent Home Support service. Yet he finds time to tell Oxford people how we should spend our money.
Most people in the city tell us they want to see quality public loos.
Sponsored flowers and donated books won’t cost the taxpayer a thing.
If the county did their job as well as we do, we could have not only first-class toilets but first- class Dial-a-Ride too.
JOHN TANNER (Labour Cllr) Board Member for a Cleaner, Greener Oxford City councillor for Littlemore & County councillor for Isis
