Sir, The White Horse Leisure Centre, managed by Community Leisure Services Ltd on behalf of the Vale of the White Horse, is an excellent local amenity, existing to improve the quality of life, fitness and longevity of local residents. What a shame that it does not share the same vision for the environment.
Despite repeated requests from customers and the presence of an Oxfordshire County Council-sponsored leaflet on the reception desk, entitled 'No time to Waste - it's time to change the way we deal with our rubbish', there is not a recycling bin in sight.
Consider the amount of waste the centre must generate in the form of recyclable drinks cans, plastic bottles, glass and cardboard. Add to this the excessive heating and air conditioning deployed in the centre and its 'carbon footprint' starts to look decidedly unhealthy.
Our local council is encouraging us to change our attitude to waste yet failing to lead by example.
