I AM approaching my 50th birthday now and things I grew up with are fast disappearing and sometimes not for the better.
Two recent examples are as follows: Temple Cowley swimming pool and Cowley Stadium.
I used the pool as a schoolboy 40 years ago and am still using it now, twice a week, along with many others, so why shut it?
As for the stadium, I watched my first speedway meeting there in 1969 and the last meeting in 2007!
I remember in the ’70s the Stadium was threatened with closure and the speedway moved to White City but it was saved then and carried on and flourished. This time I’m not so sure. It seems to me there are people trying to kill our beloved area of Cowley – community centre, swimming pool, stadium, what’s next?
