A MAN has suffered serious injuries after a car crashed off the M40 and landed in a field upside down.

Paramedics were called to the crash on the northbound carriageway between junctions 7 and 8 just after 6pm today.

An ambulance spokesman said a man aged 50 was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford with serious injuries to his lower body.

A 75-year-old woman was also taken to hospital but the extent of her injuries was not known.

One lane of the M40 was closed while emergency services worked to rescue the pair.
