FORTY pupils at the village primary school swam 444 lengths of their swimming pool and raised £180 towards the parish church restoration appeal in 1976. In the picture, Neil Fletcher, centre, and Jason Lowe hand the money to church treasurer Wally Jezzard.

Customers at the Plough pub went there for more than just the beer – the other attraction was the garden which won first prize in a competition organised by Courage, the brewers, to find the best kept garden in the region. John and Barbara Clinkard, who ran the pub, received a £50 cheque and certificate from Courage director Michael Poe in 1980.
