In your editorial (Oxford Mail, November 1), you attack city councillor Elise Benjamin for asking that the Capital Shopping proposal for the Westgate land be called in' by the Secretary of State. You do not mention the most crucial reason for her stance - that the planning process has been biased and non-objective, with city and county officers working to achieve this particular plan for many years with no democratic process.
Hundreds of members of Oxford's public support the call for a public inquiry, on the grounds of the lack of Queen Street pedestrianisation, air pollution, traffic issues and the proposed demolition of Abbey Place, which is neither in the Local Plan nor in the Westgate master plan.
Ms Benjamin has the wholehearted support of many city centre residents, whose quality of life will be compromised severely should this controversial development go ahead.
