I was delighted to read that plans for the redevelopment of the Westgate Centre in Oxford had been approved by the city council (Oxford Mail, October 31).
However I was disappointed at the headline - Westgate: the last chapter?
It implies that something is ending, but having lived in Oxford for more than 25 years, I see this as a bright new beginning for the city.
My daughters and I usually go to Reading to shop as we feel that the existing Westgate Centre is in desperate need of a revamp and there are very few high fashion and lifestyle shops in the city centre.
We are also big fans of John Lewis in Reading so to have a store on our doorstep will be amazing.
I want to offer my congratulations to the developers and thank them for keeping us so well informed of the plans for the new Westgate, and for providing the people of Oxford with a shopping environment that we can be proud of and that people visiting the city will want to explore over and over again.
What we are really excited about is that we will finally be able to do all our Christmas shopping, as a family, in Oxford!
