CHILDREN and staff of St Nicholas’ Primary School in Marston, Oxford, have been encouraging people to dig deep and give generously to this year’s Poppy Appeal.

Like many Oxfordshire schoolchildren, the pupils of St Nicholas’ have witnessed the solemn sight of a repatriation as the cortege has passed through the county from RAF Brize Norton to the special armed forces department of pathology at the JR Hospital.

And it has made the children are even more aware of the importance of buying and wearing poppies.

St Nicholas’ headteacher Rachel Crouch said: “Our school supports the Poppy Appeal every year by selling poppies around the school and at the school gate, and we have a special assembly with two minutes’ silence to remember sacrifices made in the past and present by servicemen and women.”
