Sir – I walk, or jog from Osney Island, along the towpath and across Port Meadow, almost every day. I enjoy the river, the amazing variety of birds and the trees and shrubs that bring me joy with each passing season. These things will never change.
Views, however, do change and they will have changed, as the needs of every generation changed, over the many centuries that this beautiful city has been in existence.
So let’s celebrate the fact that, in Oxford, we are blessed with such wonderful open spaces — available to us all and stop criticising the planners and especially, the University and its colleges, whose munificence has given us so many of these special spaces.
Dave Horner, Osney Island
