Sir – As a conscientious citizen and pensioner with time on my hands, I have been studying the information about the forthcoming PCC elections.
I read the following: ‘PCCs will be required to swear an oath of impartiality when they are elected to office. The oath is designed so that PCCs can set out publicly their commitment to tackling their new role with integrity. It will reflect the commitment police officers make to serve every member of the public impartially and make clear that they are there to serve the people, not a political party or any one section of their electorate’. Of the six candidates in the Thames Valley, two are independent, while four represent political parties.
None of the four has taken the trouble to write their own election addresses, each being written by an agent, presumably of their political party. How can they be considered impartial?
