IMPROVEMENTS in attainment and teaching have moved one Oxfordshire school from satisfactory to good.

St Michael’s Primary School, Steventon, was given a good rating in every area when Ofsted inspectors visited. The report pointed out that pupils now made much faster progress in all stages of the school, teachers presented work clearly to classes and displayed good subject knowledge.

Headteacher Judy Spiller and the governing body were singled out for focusing well on issues from the previous inspection, leading to improvements.

Inspector Susan Williams said in her report: “The headteacher, ably supported by the deputy headteacher, has brought about considerable improvements in achievement and teaching since the previous inspection.

“A culture of rapid and sustainable improvement has been achieved by robust monitoring of teaching, effective performance management, rigorous accountability procedures and action planning which ensures that pupils make good progress.”
