RECYCLING is a nightmare. On Saturday, November 3, we had such a lot to take that we loaded the Land Rover (because it does not have windows in the sides at the rear, it is classed as a van and therefore requires a permit, which we have) and attached the loaded trailer as well, so we would only make one trip.
The young lady at the recycling centre took our certificate and came back to say that we cannot bring the trailer as well. She also told us that she could not allow us to reverse, as there was a car behind us. She instructed us to go right through and exit.
So I said to her: “You want us to go through the centre, past where we could unload and out again. If we are passing, why can’t we unload?”
No, she said, there are cameras and we will see you, you cannot do this.
So we went through and out again. We had to park along the Kennington Road and un-hitch the trailer. I had to stay with the trailer, while my husband went to the recycling centre to unload.
After unloading he returned, and we then unloaded the contents of the trailer into the Land Rover and I again stayed with the trailer while he went again to the recycling centre to unload.
This wasted a lot of time and petrol and a lot more effort on our part, and for what? For some silly rule that should have been waived. It certainly makes me feel that it is not worth the time and energy trying to do the right thing.
