WARNINGS about potential flooding from nine waterways in Oxfordshire – including the Thames – were in force last night.
The Enviroment Agency issued nine Flood Alerts following heavy rainfall over the weekend.
The Thames was on alert from Burcot Wick down to King’s Lock, north of the city, with areas at risk of flooding including Northmoor, Stanton Harcourt, Bablock Hythe, Eynsham, Swinford and Yarnton.
Also on alert was:
- The Ock from Watchfield to Abingdon.
- Letcombe Brook at Wantage, Grove and East Hanney.
- The Cherwell from Charwelton to just above Upper Heyford.
- The Evenlode from Moreton in Marsh to Cassington. l The Glyme at Wootton and Woodstock.
- The Thame from Marsworth to Dorchester including Thame, Shabbington, Wheatley and Ickford.
- Chalgrove Brook at Chalgrove and Stadhampton.
- The Ray and its tributaries from Shipton Lee to Islip. Earlier in the day there were alerts in place for Langford and Wendlebury Brooks and their tributaries from Stratton Audley down to the M40 near Merton, but these were lifted by the afternoon.
The Met Office forecast is for dry weather this week, apart from light rain this evening and Friday evening.
The Environment Agency also warned the River Thames and tributaries could flood. The areas said to be at risk were Northmoor, Stanton Harcourt, Bablock Hythe, Eynsham, Swinford and Yarnton.
