IT HAD obviously been a very good growing season.

These impressive onions, pictured with 13-year-old Carol Conway, of Headington, Oxford, were among the prize-winners at the Morris Motors’ horticultural show in 1974.

The weather had been so good that the 56 people who entered the competitions were able to assemble 378 entries for judging.

Show secretary Sidney Wooldridge summed it up as “a very good show”.
